Facts on Filtration

1. Why have a Biofilter?

80% of pond owners soon find out – algae, murky water, listless or dead fish and

unhealthy plants all indicate poor water quality.

2. But I have a Pump…!

Circulation is important for oxygenation but won’t prevent abovementioned problems.

3. What Does a Biofilter Do?

Very simply, it utilizes natural bacteria to accelerate the breakdown of harmful waste

and pollution into harmless compounds.

4. Do I need a U.V. Clarifier too?

If you have fish, probably, yes! A UV clarifier ensures crystal-clear water by killing

greenwater algae and other micro-organisms.

5. Why not just use “XYZ” Brand Algae Treatment?

Many brands of algae treatments contain an algaecide (none of ours do) or copper

compounds. Contrary to what the label says, eventually they WILL affect your plants

and fish, unless you practice frequent (and wasteful) water changes. In the long term,

filtration is normally cheaper.

6. What Size do I Need?

Choose from our easy selection charts listed with each filter type. Be aware that

undersizing your filter may be false economy and will not result in a clean, clear,

healthy pond. The “Suggested Pump” sizes are sized to run the filter alone: if other

items such as fountain sprays, waterfalls or statues are to be included, you will need

to upsize the pump.
