Algae Treatment Guide

Step 1:    ASCERTAIN the type of algae:

Greenwater Algae is microscopic, causing the water to look like green cordial or pea soup.

Blanketweed looks like green cotton wool and floats on the surface. It may also proliferate in water courses and streams as “slime”.

Step 2: TREAT:

Choose your treatment option from the chart below and determine the pack size required from your pond size, in litres.

Step 3: PREVENT:

Use the preventative treatments as suggested, to reduce further outbreaks.


Greenwater Algae Blanketweed
Treatment Option Treatment Option
Check pH with: pH Test Kit, and if high First: Physically remove as much as possible (Book a Call out)
Adjust with: pH Adjuster for Alkaline Ponds                         
Check pH with : ph Test Kit, and if high
Then treat with: Greenaway Adjust with: ph Adjuster for Alkaline Ponds
Followed by (to consume dead algae): Then use: Pond Balance
Sludge Buster or String Algae Buster Powder
OR Bioactive Sludge Control
PREVENT WITH PREVENT WITH
Extract of Barley Straw Extract of Barley Straw
With Clarifer Bacteria with Clarifer Bacteria
or Install a Biofilter or Install a Blagdon Electronic Blanketweed Controller
and UV Clarifier for long term prevention OR an I-Tronic Blanketweed Controller

 

 

Note: If pH is high, treatments will not be as effective.
